Every few months, news outlets will publish a frightening story of plastic surgery gone awry. These stories usually include an untrained practitioner using dangerous techniques or inserting a hazardous material into an area of the patient’s body. Thanks to the popularity of voluptuous buttocks in pop culture, some scenarios even include non-doctors injecting mineral oil, non-medical grade silicone and even cement into the buttocks to enhance it. Almost invariably, patients in these cases suffer serious — or even fatal — side effects.
Clearly, it is unconscionable for someone claiming to be a plastic surgeon to offer procedures such as buttock augmentation or the Brazilian Butt Lift. However, the responsibility ultimately falls on the patient to research and confirm the credentials of their surgeon before scheduling an operation. In other words, it is a “buyer beware” marketplace.
How should plastic surgery candidates approach the surgeon selection process? Board certified surgeon Dr. Ary Krau has the answer. Here, he shares some tips for choosing a plastic surgeon to perform buttock augmentation surgery, including the Brazilian Butt Lift, in Miami.
Qualities to Look for In a Brazilian Butt Lift Surgeon
Credentials: There are no butts about it: your surgeon must be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. This confirms the surgeon has met a rigorous set of standards relating to their education, training and experience.
Experience: Inquire about your surgeon’s experience in your requested procedure. Ask him or her how many procedures he has performed, what results can be reasonably expected and whether there are any common side effects or complications.
Bedside Manner: Board certification and experience are of little importance if you don’t feel comfortable in the surgeon’s presence. Your surgeon should put you at ease and take the time to answer all of your questions.
Results: You want to get a sense of the surgeon’s work to see if his aesthetic taste — and/or impression of your optimal results — matches your vision. Browse through his before-and-after photo gallery of patients.
Reviews: Read testimonials written by your surgeon’s former and current patients. You will find the most credible, unfiltered reviews on websites such as RealSelf.
