The good news is that Botox results can be both long-lasting and easy to maintain with a well-planned treatment schedule.

At Dr. Ary Krau’s Miami practice, Botox is one of the most requested non-surgical treatments thanks to its success at reducing fine lines and wrinkles. Whether you’re new to Botox or a regular user, here’s what to know about how long your results can last — and what factors affect their duration.

Typical Duration of Botox Results

The effects of Botox last three to four months on average. Some people may enjoy results for up to six months, especially with consistent treatment history. After injection, it typically takes about three to seven days to start seeing visible improvements, with full results developing within two weeks.

Over time, muscle activity gradually returns, and fine lines may slowly reappear. Regular maintenance appointments help “train” the treated muscles to stay relaxed longer, potentially extending the duration between treatments.

What Determines How Long Botox Lasts?

Several factors can influence how long Botox results last:

Metabolism: Individuals with faster metabolisms may break down Botox more quickly.

Muscle strength: Larger, stronger facial muscles (more common in men) may require higher doses and more frequent treatments.

Dosage: The number of units used affects longevity. Underdosing may yield shorter results.

Treatment history: Regular Botox users often experience longer-lasting effects over time.

Lifestyle: Smoking, excessive sun exposure, and high levels of physical activity can reduce the duration of results.

Dr. Krau customizes each Botox treatment to fit your unique facial anatomy and aesthetic goals. By carefully balancing dosage and injection sites, he helps ensure results that not only look natural but also last as long as possible.

Keeping Your Results Fresh

To maintain a smooth, youthful look, most patients schedule Botox appointments every three to four months. Dr. Krau will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that ensures consistent results without looking overdone.

If you’re ready to enjoy smoother skin with lasting results, Dr. Krau, a graduate of New York University School of Medicine, offers expert Botox treatments tailored to your needs. Contact our Miami office today at (305) 861-6881 to schedule your consultation and discover how Botox can help you look refreshed and confident.

Dermal fillers and neuromodulator injectables are a great way to improve your facial appearance without invasive surgery. These products can smooth lines and wrinkles and restore lost volume; they are safe and effective but only in the hands of a highly trained medical professional. Board-certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Ary Krau in Miami are the best choice for Botox or Juvéderm treatments because they have more experience and a keen eye for aesthetic details.

A Plastic Surgeon Tailors Your Facial Injection to Your Needs and Anatomy

While other medical professionals like nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants, registered nurses, and dentists may be qualified to inject Botox or Juvéderm, they don’t have the experience and knowledge of these materials like a plastic surgeon. Plastic surgeons undergo years of training focused on improving facial concerns through surgical or non-surgical means and understand the delicate balance of art and science involved with injectables.

Facial injections are not one-size-fits-all and should be tailored to your cosmetic goals, facial anatomy and physiology, unique signs of aging, medical history, and other factors. A board-certified plastic surgeon can tell if you are a good candidate for injectables and select the right product for your needs, including the proper dilution of the solution or number of syringes needed to achieve your desired results. They know precisely where and how much Botox or Juvéderm to inject for a balanced, natural-looking appearance. Plastic surgeons recognize and address complications and have more experience with these non-surgical treatments than other providers.

Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons Have a Deeper Understanding and Education on Aesthetics

All physicians understand the human body’s inner workings, but not all doctors are trained to examine the face and body from a cosmetic standpoint. Plastic surgeons have years of training, including a minimum of three years in a plastic surgery residency, that helps them develop a deeper understanding of the aesthetics and function of the treated area. Board-certified plastic surgeons are committed to their craft. They must complete annual continuing medical education (CME) courses and re-certify every 10 years to ensure they stay at the top of their field.

Plastic surgeons are the ideal physicians to administer facial injections because of their intensive training and focus on aesthetic appeal.

Plastic Surgeons Offer Unique, Long-Lasting Treatment

Your treatment plan with facial injections goes beyond short-term wrinkle improvement. Botox and Juvéderm can provide long-lasting results with maintenance treatments that ensure your younger appearance is here to stay. Plastic surgeons have a unique perspective and approach that focuses on long-term improvement so you can get the most out of our Juvéderm and Botox results.

Plastic surgeons are most equipped to tell you if Botox or Juvéderm is right for your needs. Dr. Krau will evaluate your facial concerns and may recommend an alternative treatment or procedure for better results.

You are not alone. However, you do not need to be concerned when you work with a qualified, credible injector. The best Botox providers, like Dr. Ary Krau and his team, understand that a little product goes a long way!

Subtle Changes Turn Back the Clock

Botox is intended to minimize lines caused by repeated facial movements such as frowning and squinting. When injected into targeted facial muscles, Botox temporarily relaxes the muscle and prevents it from contracting. As a result, the overlying lines or wrinkles smooth out and the treated area looks softer.

Botox is best for minimizing crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles and vertical lines between the eyebrows. A few quick injections produce noticeable results without radically transforming your expression. Softening these lines and wrinkles can help you look years younger, but in a very subtle way. With your smoother, softer skin, other people will notice you look rested and refreshed — but no one will be able to tell you have had any cosmetic work done.

The results of Botox last anywhere from three to six months or more, depending on your skin type, genetics and lifestyle. Regular treatments are required to maintain the effects.

Avoid Looking Overdone or Frozen

As mentioned, the key to avoid looking overdone or frozen is to select your injector wisely. A qualified injector will help you look more like your natural (and younger) self rather than a completely different version of yourself. Take your time, do your homework and find an injector with a lot of experience and a vast understanding of facial anatomy. Don’t be afraid to look at the injector’s before-and-after images. Look for images of people who resemble you and who were treated for the same issues that concern you (e.g., forehead wrinkles or crow’s feet). Be clear with your injector about what you hope to achieve with Botox. Some patients want to maintain more facial movement in areas like the forehead, whereas others do not.

Also, if you are getting Botox for the first time, it might be best to start out conservatively. Instead of treating multiple areas of concern at the same time, start out by treating your crow’s feet or forehead wrinkles only. This allows you the opportunity to decide if you like the results without going too far. You can always add more product later if you are happy with the outcomes.

The key is knowing which features to refine, and which to preserve for the most natural-looking result. Dr. Krau will perform a comprehensive analysis of your facial features, bone structure and skin quality before mapping out a plan of treatment.

Your treatment will be tailored to your unique needs, and could include any of the following elements:

Smoothing out marionette lines: Dermal filler injections can fill in and minimize the appearance of marionette lines, which are the lines that extend from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. This can help to give the lower face a more neutral and relaxed expression.

Plumping up pursed lips: Fillers can also be used to plump up thin lips that appear pursed or grim. Adding volume to the lips is especially helpful if the corners of the mouth turn down in a scowl.

Minimizing forehead creases: Botox injections are perfect for minimizing forehead creases and wrinkles that give the face a scowling appearance. Botox can also soften furrows between the eyebrows, also known as the “11 lines,” for a more neutral facial expression.

Elevating low brows: Botox is also effective at giving low or furrowed eyebrows a subtle lift, which opens up the eyes and brightens the facial expression.

Nowadays, more patients favor minimally invasive treatments with quick results and little downtime. Because of this shift, using Botox to achieve a more appealing brow position has emerged as a popular alternative to traditional brow lift.

Although Botox is a safe and effective treatment, it is not a perfect substitute for brow lift surgery. Take a moment to learn why from respected Miami plastic surgeon Ary Krau.

Understanding the “Botox Brow Lift”

Botox is a cosmetic injectable that temporarily relaxes certain muscles around the eyes. It is commonly used for its ability to smooth dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles caused by repeated facial movements such as squinting or frowning.

In addition to its wrinkle-reducing capabilities, Botox can also be used to simulate the effects of a brow lift. In a “Botox Brow Lift,” Botox is injected into the muscles that pull the brows down. As these muscles weaken, this allows the forehead muscles to lift the brows up into a more pleasing position.

Botox can be injected into different muscles for different effects. For instance, it can be injected into the muscles right above the eye’s pupil to make the eyes appear wider and more awake. Or, Botox can be injected into other muscles in the forehead to lift the tail ends of the brows.

The effects of Botox injections are temporary and on average, last from three to six months. Repeat injections are required to maintain the results of Botox treatment.

Understanding Brow Lift

Brow lift improves the position of the eyebrows by tightening and lifting the skin and tissues of the forehead. The procedure can also improve the appearance of age-related forehead wrinkles and frown lines in between the eyebrows.

Brow lift can be performed several different ways through different incision patterns. Although the surgery requires recovery downtime and has an increased risk of complications, the results of brow lift are more dramatic and last for many years. Unlike Botox injections, patients only need to undergo the procedure once.

Which Approach Is Right for You?

There is no “one-size-fits-all” brow lift solution that works for everyone. The approach that is right for you depends on your age, unique facial anatomy, personal preferences and the degree of correction needed.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Ary Krau can assess your needs and goals and recommend whether Botox or brow lift is most likely to give you the results you desire.

It is a common practice for doctors to use cosmetic injectable products, such as neurotoxins or dermal fillers, “off-label.” You may have even had a doctor recommend using one of these products off-label to treat your specific anti-aging need or another type of medical condition.

But what does off-label mean, and is it legitimate? Dr. Ary Krau explains more here.

“Off-Label” Uses

Using an injectable product “off-label” means using a drug that is approved for a specific use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in another, non-approved way.

The FDA’s goal is to protect and reassure consumers that the drugs and medical devices their doctors use are safe and effective. Companies spend years trying to receive approval of their products from the FDA. They must prove that their product is safe and effective for its intended use and present clinical data to back up these claims. The seal of approval confirms that the benefits of using a product outweigh the potential risks.

Once the FDA approves a product for a specific use, doctors are able to use it for off-label uses as they see fit, based on their experience and knowledge of the product.

Sometimes doctors recommend using approved drugs for non-approved uses to treat a specific condition. Perhaps there may not be an approved drug to treat the specific condition; or, perhaps the doctor has tried all of the approved drugs but they have not produced the desired outcomes.

A great example is Botox Cosmetic, which is currently approved by the FDA to treat forehead lines, crow’s feet lines and glabellar lines (short vertical lines found between the eyebrows). But many doctors recommend using Botox to treat other noticeable signs of aging, such as bands on the neck or downturned corners of the mouth.

Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox, can’t formally advertise these off-label uses, and doctors in private practice may be hesitant to publically promote off-label uses in their marketing materials. However, it is common practice for doctors to suggest those uses during consultation, after they have evaluated you and discussed your specific needs. Also, it’s perfectly appropriate for you to inquire about a doctor’s experience in using a product off-label, and whether they would recommend it for your goals.
