Liposuction Techniques
Based on each patient's anatomy and desired outcome, Dr. Krau can create a personalized surgical plan to meet your goals. The techniques available for liposuction ("lipoplasty") include tumescent liposuction and power-assisted lipoplasty (PAL). For both methods, small incisions are made in the target area, which allow for the insertion of a long tube called a cannula to suction the fat.
During the tumescent technique, a solution made of lidocaine (anesthetic) and epinephrine (blood vessel constrictor) is injected into the fatty region to allow for smooth removal. This also helps to reduce bleeding, bruising, and post-surgical pain. When undergoing the PAL method, a special cannula is used, which emits tiny vibrations to break up fat cells for removal. Using this technique gives Dr. Krau the ability to remove more fat in a short amount of time.
In addition, Miami, Bal Harbour, and Aventura liposuction patients who wish to achieve a better-contoured shape may also choose to combine tummy tuck surgery ("abdominoplasty") with their liposuction surgery. A tummy tuck removes loose, excess skin in the midsection and tightens abdominal muscles.
