What is special about the Fraxel Laser?

The Fraxel Laser Treatment is different from other laser skin peels because it affects only a fraction of your skin at a time with thousands of tiny microscopic laser spots. The Fraxel laser penetrates deep into the skin, but leaves areas of skin untouched to speed healing. Miami area patients enjoy the reduced down time of the Fraxel laser treatment, as compared to traditional laser resurfacing.

What can the Fraxel be used for?

The Fraxel Laser can be used to rejuvenate your neck, chest and hands. The Fraxel laser improves your skin's tone and texture, and reduces pore size. The Fraxel can be used to erase unwanted brown spots, smooth wrinkles around the eyes, and reduce acne scars.

How Does the Fraxel Laser Treatment Work?

Fraxel Laser Treatment produces thousands of tiny areas of treatment, known as "microthermal zones". This treatment removes old and dead skin cells. For every "microthermal zone" the laser treats, it leaves the surrounding skin unaffected and intact. This "fractional" treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. Your body's natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections. At your consultation, Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Krau will recommend a treatment plan for you. By design, each Fraxel Laser Treatment targets between 20 and 25 percent of the skin's surface. On average, an effective treatment regimen is 3 to 5 sessions, spaced about 2 to 4 weeks apart. Fraxel laser resurfacing results are immediate and progressively improve with each Fraxel treatment. Optimal improvement is usually apparent in about 2 to 3 months. Because Fraxel Laser Treatment spares healthy tissue, it is effective even on delicate skin areas, such as the neck, chest and hands.

What is Fraxel Laser Treatment Like?

Your skin area will be thoroughly washed prior to the procedure. An FDA approved blue water-soluble tint is applied to the treatment area to highlight the contours of the skin. The blue tint is washed off after treatment. After the Fraxel laser treatment, you will feel "sunburned" for about an hour and then have minimal discomfort. Your skin will have a pinkish tone for about a week. This is a normal sign that the skin is deeply healing. Swelling after Fraxel laser treatment is minimal and is usually gone in 2-3 days. You may apply make-up or shave soon after your Fraxel laser treatment. Some patients return to their routine the same day of treatment. Other people need a little more time, depending upon their treatment and skin. Is Fraxel Laser Treatment Painful?

Fraxel Laser Treatment can be performed right in Dr. Krau's Miami office using only topical anesthesia. If you have a significant area of your skin treated, Dr. Krau will develop a plan to manage any pain and maximize your comfort during the procedure.

After Your Fraxel Treatment

Over the following weeks and months, your body will repair the deeper dermal tissues that have been treated by the Fraxel laser. Be sure to use a high quality sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30-plus at least twice daily to protect your skin from sun during the healing phase and for several months after your Fraxel laser treatment. A wide brimmed hat can provide additional protection in bright sunlight.

Is Laser Hair Removal Treatment Painful?

Amazingly, hair removal with the Soprano XL is virtually painless! Dr. Krau and his office staff tried it on themselves! The hair removal treatment can be performed right in Dr. Krau's Miami office and within about 5 treatments, you'll be delighted with the results! The Soprano XL laser penetrates deep into the skin, but has a special way of simultaneously applying both heat to the follicle and cold to the dermis, so the hair is destroyed without heating the skin during hair removal. Is this Laser Hair Removal Treatment Permanent?
