Latest plastic surgery trends Men and women are seeking plastic surgery in record numbers, according to the latest report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The report revealed that a total of 17.5 million plastic surgery procedures were performed in 2017, a 2 percent increase from the previous year.

Top Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Ary Krau reveals the top surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures and other rising trends in this blog post.

Top Surgical Procedures

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure of 2017, and saw a 3 percent increase from the previous year. The most popular way to enhance the size and volume of the breasts continues to be with implants. Women can choose saline, silicone gel or highly cohesive silicone breast implants, also known as “gummy bear” implants.

Coming in second was liposuction, the gold standard in surgical fat removal. Liposuction techniques can be used to remove stubborn fat deposits on the abdomen, back, flanks, thighs, upper arms, chin, neck and other body areas.

Rhinoplasty and eyelid surgery, two facial rejuvenation procedures, came in third and fourth place, respectively. Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping surgery, can be used to reshape and resize the nose for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Or, it can be used to improve breathing function or another medical issue. Eyelid surgery corrects signs of aging on the upper and/or lower eyelids including loose, drooping skin, lines and wrinkles.

Tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, made a return to the top five. The procedure saw a 2 percent increase, bumping facelift into sixth place.

Buttock procedures also saw an increase in numbers. Butt augmentation with fat grafting, popularly known as Brazilian butt lift, increased 10 percent, while traditional butt lift rose 13 percent.

Another surgical procedure that experienced a noticeable increase was breast reduction, which resizes overly large and heavy breasts for a more proportionate appearance.

Top Minimally Invasive Procedures

Minimally invasive procedures continue to grow in popularity, accounting for a whopping 15.7 million procedures in 2017. The top minimally invasive procedure was Botox, which can be used to eliminate wrinkles and fine lines quickly and painlessly. Dermal fillers, which include Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma, came in second place. Chemical peels, laser hair removal and microdermabrasion rounded out the top five.
