In addition to making the face appear chubbier, submental fullness can give the illusion that a person is altogether heavier than they actually are. Fortunately, there are options with regard to alleviating this condition. Dr. Ary Krau has the experience needed to treat submental fullness and a double chin through a few different cosmetic procedures.

Neck Liposuction

Liposuction performed on the area under the chin and on the upper portion of the neck is the optimal choice for patients who desire a permanent solution for submental fullness. With liposuction, a small incision is made, and excess fat is removed from the area. There are multiple benefits to this treatment option, including the following:

  • The solution is permanent; no follow-up treatments are required
  • Krau is able to selectively target the problem area(s) below the chin
  • The entire jawline can be slimmed
  • Most patients report very positive results

Kybella

Kybella treatment is an injectable, non-surgical alternative to neck liposuction. The injectable product is made from deoxycholic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body. The acid targets and destroys fat cells that contribute to submental fullness. A series of treatments, spaced several weeks apart, is typically required to achieve the desired fat reduction.

Results can start to be seen after a month, with final results appearing within three to four months. Downtime after a Kybella treatment is minimal, and side effects can include some swelling and redness that generally only last for a day or two.

The results from Kybella are permanent, and although a patient may regain fat in the chin area if they experience overall weight gain, the weight will be distributed more evenly. One thing to note is that if you have sagging or excess skin on your chin, Kybella injections will not achieve optimal results. Kybella is also not ideal for sculpting the angle of the jaw or areas besides the chin.

Dr. Krau is available to discuss both neck liposuction and Kybella treatment options, along with any of your other cosmetic surgery needs. Please call (305) 861-6881 for an appointment.
